The town is famous for its Fancy Dress Christmas Mascarade where the whole town becomes a parade of colourful costumes and masks and tinsel hats, floats with 12 foot high stilt walkers, and brass bands.The festival  finishes on New Years Day with a a dance competition with 4 teams of approx. 100 adults and children in each team performing a chorographed dance piece in the towns large recreational field.

Then there is The Deer Hunting Festival the first week of May. The town becomes a sea of people dancing through the streets with sound systems playing music all over the town. The locals have two teams Red and White and dress as warriers with body paint, flags and exotic costumes. On the Friday night everyone stays up all night and then at dawn they run into the bush crossing the river to catch the deer bear handed with no weapons.
